Young Nak Muays Stepped in the Ring for the First Time!

Huge Congratulations to our Young Nak Muay who both stepped in the ring for their first times on Friday November 3rd! Both Maddex and Remy listened so well during their matches and outworked their opposition with high volume boxing (1-2s for Life) and low kicks!  We went 2-0!!

Nurturing this next generation of Thai Boxing athletes has to be one of the coolest parts of this journey. Thank you to the parents for their dedication in bringing their kids to training and for entrusting us with their Young Nak Muays’ success!

Pre-order Custom Gloves in Support of Leeds & Grenville Interval House

We at Boss Thai Boxing welcome November as the nationally-recognized month of awareness for the prevention of violence against women. As an initiative to benefit local VAW shelters in our area, we’ve designed a limited edition “flower bomb” boxing glove, with $10 of each sale donated to the Leeds & Grenville Interval House for women seeking safety from domestic abuse.

We are opening up pre-orders to the public, with the hopes of making a considerable donation by the time pre-sales end, but more importantly, with the intention of spreading awareness of this persisting an important social issue which affects 8x more Canadian women compared to men.*

Boss Members Compete in ‘Live at Lansdowne 7’

We had two competitors step in the ring at the Live at Lansdowne event!

First we had Rob Hossie taking on an undefeated, young, aggressive pressure style fighter who loved to swing for the fences and outwork his previous opponents in the clinch. What can I say? This was Rob Hossie’s BEST performance to date. Great footwork, busy clinch knees, striking and boxing while moving backwards and amazing forward pressure with his infamous kicks whenever his opponent was taking a break! Rob earned himself a Split Decision Win and will now be facing opponents in B Class! 🦵🏼🥊

Lastly, we had our Assistant Coach and Senior Student — Khun Zach Marques step in for the Co-Main Event. This fight was truly the People’s Main Event — where we squared off with a long time friend and very talented Nak Muay out of Ottawa Fight & Fitness. Zach went through a lot of challenges during this fight camp, losing over 15 lbs in 6 weeks, finding out his opponent changed 1.5 weeks from his fight AND learning that this would be an A-Class match 2 days before the fight instead of a B-Class match that we had prepared for. Nonetheless, we RISE to the occassion at Boss Thai Boxing. We are thorough in our training when it comes to the diet, conditioning and technique and we are prepared for these kinds of last minute changes. Zach’s match was arguably the Fight Of the Night with both athletes showcasing a high level of Muay Thai. Zach’s opponent showcased some slick and fast Muay Thai that seemed to be catching us early in the fight. Zach turned it around in a CLOSE 2nd round with his forward pressure and higher cardio. Round 3 — Wow! Zach lands a great high kick that knocks his opponent down. The scorecards are tallied and the People’s Main Event ends in a DRAW! Whata fight. Kudos to both Zach and Rob for stepping in the ring and representing Boss at the inaugural Live at Lansdowne event — it was a fantastic night of the Art of 8 Limbs in Ottawa! 🇹🇭 🏆

Boss Competes in ‘Legacy Kickboxing Championships’

We had two competitors step in the ring at the Boss Competes in ‘Legacy Kickboxing Championships!

First up we had Jess King step in the squared-circle at Legacy Kickboxing. Jess snapped her opponent’s head back with some mean overhand rights and chopped her lead leg repeatedly. It was a good back and forth match with her opponent ultimately getting the nod. It was a great match to showcase areas that Jess had improved in — onto the next one, great work Jess! 🥊

Second we had Kalem Leland face off against the undefeated hometown favourite. Kalem, who’s only been training for a little over a year might I add, had some great back-and-forth exchanges with a ‘pitbull’ of an opponent. This was an eye-opening match where we were able to walk away from the match knowing the areas we need to work on (these are the best!). His opponent’s forward pressure and powerful overhands ultimately got his hand raised instead of Kalem’s. 💪🏻

Both Kalem and Jess were back in the gym the following Monday and were ready to get after it again (they even tried to stay for sparring — lol!). Kudos to these two for all of their hardwork and representing Boss at Legacy! Most of all, Kudos to them for their willingness to get back to the ‘lab’ and improve on their craft almost immediately after their fights! 🏅

Bushido II

July 8th was Bushido 2 and Team Boss rocked it!

Young Milo’s fight had to be cancelled due to a weight discrepancy and it was ultimately called off for the sake of safety. Milo is ready and hungry for the next one!

First in the Ring was Mabel— our dynamic 15 year old who practically LIVES at the gym. Mabel did amazing in her debut as she showcased her strong and aggressive boxing (1-2s all day!), great clinch game and wicked kick responses. Great job Mabel on securing a TKO in the 2nd round! 👊💥

Second we had Kalem making his debut in the ring. This guy was SO calm, cool and collected and did amazing in his first match against a skilled opponent. Kalem utilized his reach and displayed some great kickboxing and dominated with his ‘Full Plum of Death’ at close range. Great work to Kalem for securing his first Dub!

Last we had one of our biggest supporters —Mike Boyd! Mike squared off with an opponent with a bit more experience than him and took it to him! It took us a little bit of time to get settled in and comfortable, but Mike’s jab, kicks and clinch work found a home. It was 1-1 going into the 3rd round, and we were unfortunately just a bit short to secure the W. We know what we need to work and we’re eager to get back to sharpening! Great work Mike on a great competitive match! 🔥

All 3 Boss Athletes made us so proud in their performances! All 3 of them practically live in the gym and devote all their and energy into their training. Big Ups to them and we look forward to whatever’s next! 🙏🙏
